Becoming Eco-Friendly

"La Basura Mata" - litter kills - is a frequent slogan that is displayed on the walls in La Paz. As a growing city there is more waste being generated and management of waste is becoming a serious issue. In the past years managment of litter - its collection, disposal, and recycling - has become a priority on the city council's agenda. They are creating an eco-friendly program in La Paz along with Emaverde. The landfill of Alpacoma is filling up and experts predict that it will fill up in about 20 years. A factory near Alpacome is beginning to produce an inventive recycled material, plastimadera, from the pastic waste collected at Alpacoma.
